How does it works?
LifeSigns is a simple and free service that can be used without the installation of any app or program. Simply create an account and provide your email address together with those of some friends, family or colleagues as buddies
From now on you will receive a daily email with a LifeSign button. As long as you press the button every day, none of you buddies will be contacted. In case you are not able to press the button, the LifeSigns automatically sends requests to your buddies to check in on you.

Do I really need this?
There are many ways a person can get incapacitated. If a single cannot contact the outside world for help their situation could deteriorate. More information on the risk of living alone (Warning, contains some alarming statistics)
Unfortunately , the need for getting outside help may be higher than you think. In Amsterdam yearly an average of 34 deaths are found, only discovered after 14 days. That's almost one person every ten days.
In Japan they call the phenomenon of people remaining undiscovered for a long period of time and dying Kodokushi (孤独死) or ‘lonely death’. Yearly about 32,000 people die a lonely death nationwide.
In many cases these tragedies could have been prevented if the outside world would have been alerted in time.
A survey in the Uk indicated that One in three Britons fear dying alone.
TheLifeSigns service is based on daily emails, you can therefore not expect instant response. However, if set up properly, you can expect a response either the same day, or the next day at the latest. For many situation this is sufficient to prevent serious escalations.
TheLifeSigns service does not only support you, but it also gives reassurance for your family and friends, as they do not have to worry about your wellbeing as long as they get no follow up requests.
